Description
Bedlay Castle is located between Chryston and Moodiesburn in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The castle was built on a volcanic crag above the Bothlyn Burn. Bedlay Castle is privately owned and occupied as a house. The original castle was a simple tower house of two storeys and an attic At ground floor level there were two vaulted cellars, with a hall above. Bedlay was extended in the late 17th century, with a large extension with round towers added to the west of the original building. A linking block of two storeys was added to the north side in the 18th century.

History
Bedlay Castle was built by Robert Boyd, the 4th Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock in the 16th century. The Boyds owned the castle until 1642, when it was sold to James Robertson, who later became Lord Bedlay. The Robertons extended the castle, and owned it until 1786. It has been owned by a number of people since then.

The castle is said to be haunted by the ghost of Bishop Cameron, who died in suspicious circumstances in 1350.
