Description
Harthill Castle is situated near Oyne, Aberdeenshire. The castle is the ancient seat of the family of Leith of Harthill. It dates from the 15th century, if not earlier, and was extensively restored in 1638 by John Leith. Harthill Castle is a pink-washed Z-plan tower. The 77 feet high tower dates from the 17th century. It has 4 storeys with vaulted ground floor rooms. The castle has a Great Hall and four poster bedrooms. The castle was restored between 1975 and 1977, transforming it from a ruin to a magnificent building. The restoration work won the Saltire Award in 1977.
